5 Signs You Need AC Repairs Now

Monday, September 23rd, 2019

vent-register-on-wallLet’s face it: the fall season does not mean your air conditioner will be turning off anytime soon. Florida tends to enjoy keeping the climate warm and humid year-round, which is why your cooling system sees a lot more action than your heating system.

Because your AC tends to take on more work, it also sustains more wear and tear. Especially with the risk of thunderstorms and continued high heat on the horizon, you will want to make sure that your equipment is in peak working order, keeping your home dry and cool.

Before your air conditioner gives out when you need it the most, you should determine if it might be time for a repair.

“Can I Remove Ice from my AC Myself?”

Monday, August 26th, 2019

ice-on-air-conditionerThe short answer to this is “no,” but we promise to elaborate.

Essentially, trying to scrape ice off of your air conditioner yourself could end up further damaging it, plus removing the ice doesn’t solve the problem that caused the ice buildup to begin with!

So, what does cause that ice buildup? It’s not a normal occurrence, despite your air conditioner cooling the air. We understand how it could be easy to believe that ice might be involved, but transferring heat from one place to another using refrigerant as an air conditioner does, does not use ice, and shouldn’t create it either.

What to Do about Mold Lurking in Your Ducts

Monday, May 6th, 2019

microscopic-view-of-mold-growthIt’s not pretty to think about—actually, it’s literally not pretty—but mold is a big problem where we’re from. High humidity and long summers create the perfect environment for mold and mildew buildup. And if your home has excess moisture in it, mold can even grow there.

Where’s the best place in your home for mold to thrive? It’s your ductwork, where it is cool and damp for the majority of the year as you use your air conditioner. There’s one way to prevent this, and that’s the installation of a UV air purifier. Also called germicidal lights or UV lights, a UV air purifier is harmless to people and pets, but kills microorganisms lurking in ductwork.

But what if the mold is already there? Is there anything you can do besides rip out all your ductwork and start from scratch? (Please don’t do this! There’s another way!)

Is It Ever Okay to See Ice on an Air Conditioner?

Monday, September 10th, 2018

Frozen air conditioning with icicleThe short answer to this is “no,” but if the questioner part of you is wondering why, stick around! We’re going to explain.

To understand why this is a problem you first need to understand how your air conditioning in Royal Palm Beach, FL operates. You might already know that it is a refrigerant-based system and that it works similarly to your home’s refrigerator. Both these appliances utilize a chemical refrigerant to absorb heat from the inside and move that heat to the outside. This is why you notice the outside condenser unit blowing out heated air when the AC is operating.

But neither of these systems requires ice to function. We understand how this misconception occurs—after all, the cooling system is sending out chilled air—but this just isn’t the case. Transferring heat from one place to another using refrigerant just doesn’t require ice, and it shouldn’t produce it, either.

Beware of These Ductless Repair Needs

Monday, June 18th, 2018

ductless system being adjusted by a technicianThere is an option out there for both cooling and heating that has been growing in popularity recently. That’s the ductless system. Instead of operating through a network of ducts connected to an indoor air handler and evaporator unit, a ductless system basically breaks up the indoor unit and the blower fans in order to distribute conditioned air throughout the home in the form of air handlers, mounted high up on the wall of the room it’s intended for.

If you’ve ever been in a home or building (they’re most often seen in hotels these days) and have seen something on the wall that resembles a window air conditioner but doesn’t go back through the wall, then you’re looking at a component of the ductless system—an air handler—which is connected to a single outdoor unit, essentially creating the same effect as a central heat pump without the air ducts. There are numerous advantages to using this type of air conditioning in Coral Springs, FL—namely, its efficiency.

But, there are also unique needs to be aware of. In particular, repair needs.

Tips for Caring for Your Heat Pump System

Monday, January 1st, 2018

hvac return vent on wall inside homeIf you have a heat pump system, then you know how great of a heating and cooling system it makes. Your heat pump uses the same components for both heating and air conditioning, and it does so efficiently. But this also means that instead of working hard for just one season, it’s working hard all year long, which results in a higher need for care.

Our winters may be mild and short, but when it comes to caring for your heat pump system, our first word of advice is to schedule your HVAC maintenance biannually, versus once a year like you would a conventional Boynton Beach, FL air conditioning system or heating system.

Monday, February 1st, 2016

When you get home, you want to relax in a cool, comfortable environment, especially during our brutally hot summer season. When your air conditioner is working just as it should, you probably don’t give it all that much thought. Don’t allow a well-performing air conditioner to lull you into a false sense of security, though. There are a number of problems that can develop with your system, particularly if you do not complete the minor maintenance steps that the system demands. Changing your air filter, for instance, protects both the performance quality and overall integrity of your air conditioner in Wellington, FL. Do not forget about your condensate drain line, either, though. This can be the source of a surprising number of varied problems.
