4 Signs That You Have Mold in Your Home

signs of mold growth on white wallIt is pretty apparent to people that mold isn’t a good thing. We know that mold growing on our food means that is it largely inedible. Likewise, we know that mold appearing in our homes can become a bigger problem if it isn’t addressed quickly.

The question you might run into is how to determine when you have mold in your home. Unfortunately, mold often grows in areas that aren’t very visible such as your ductwork or dark corners of the house. This makes it important to know what the warning signs are of the presence of mold in your home.

Let’s check out those warning signs so you know when to reach out for our help with mold removal in Manalapan, FL.

4 Warning Signs You Need Mold Removal

If you pick up on any of these indicators it may mean you need to call in a professional to check for mold.

  1. There is a noticeable smell. One of the things that is a common sign that almost everyone picks up on when there is mold is the smell. It’s a little earthy and a little mildewy but all wrong when it is in your house. If you notice a moldy smell anywhere in the home, it may be time to start a hunt for the problem.
  2. There are developing respiratory issues: Have you noticed that you or someone else in the house is struggling with respiratory problems lately? This can come in the form of itchy, watery eyes, chronic congestion or a runny nose, an itchy and sore throat, or coughing, sneezing, and wheezing. These are all physical signs that mold is creating problems in the house.
  3. You can see some spotting around at-risk areas: This can mean parts of your bathroom that don’t get much light but see plenty of humidity, the ducts in your home which are the perfect environment for mold to grow in, or even the area around doors and windows. Check for spotting in these areas, and around the vents connected to your ductwork.
  4. There have been problems with water damage or flooding in the home. Have you had to deal with water damage in your home in the past few years? Or perhaps you’ve been flooded somewhat recently. The impact of water damage doesn’t always go away immediately–sometimes it can lead to the development of mold and mildew growth.

Handling Mold Growth in Your Home

Mold isn’t something you can just wipe away. For one thing, you have to make sure that the core cause of the growth is addressed first (ie. plugging a leaking pipe or getting rid of unaddressed water damage). Then you need to approach removing the mold so that it cannot grow and spread in your home anymore.
