Ductless Systems Have These Unique Service Needs

Are you using one of the most popular and highly efficient HVAC systems on the market today? That is, are you utilizing a ductless heat pump?

Instead of operating through a system of ductwork connected to an indoor air handler and evaporator unit, ductless systems essentially break up the indoor unit and blower fans to distribute conditioned air throughout the living space via mini air handlers mounted on the walls.

If you already have a ductless system in place, then you know this. If you’re considering purchasing one, great! We do want you to make an educated choice, however, and this means looking at all aspect of ductless units, including their unique service requirements. Just like any other type of HVAC system, ductless systems can experience problems. But sometimes their repair needs can be a bit different than a traditional air conditioner, heat pump, or furnace.

What to Do about Mold Lurking in Your Ducts

High humidity and long summers create the perfect environment for mold and mildew buildup. And if your home has excess moisture in it, mold can even grow there.

Where’s the best place in your home for mold to thrive? It’s your ductwork, where it is cool and damp for the majority of the year as you use your air conditioner. There’s one way to prevent this, and that’s the installation of a UV air purifier. Also called germicidal lights or UV lights, a UV air purifier is harmless to people and pets, but kills microorganisms lurking in ductwork.

But what if the mold is already there? Is there anything you can do besides rip out all your ductwork and start from scratch? (Please don’t do this! There’s another way!)
