West Palm Beach, FL Air Conditioning Guide: Two-Stage Systems

Monday, September 16th, 2013

For getting cool air relief in the muggy and hot climate of Florida, you have multiple air conditioning options. Not only are there a variety of brands, but also different types of systems. In this blog post, we’ll provide you with the basics about two-stage system ACs and what they can do for you. When you’re ready for quality air conditioning installation and service in West Palm Beach, FL, call on the experts at Envirotech.

What makes a two-stage air conditioner different from a standard system is that it has a compressor with two different settings. The AC can run on the high setting for the hottest days of summer, and then switch to lower operation when the outside temperature begins to go down—running at approximately 60% of full power.

The low setting can satisfy most people’s needs outside of the most intense summer heat. The air conditioner will operate on lengthy cycles at the lower setting, resulting in less energy waste from multiple start-ups. You can also keep a two-stage air conditioner running for longer at the low setting, which means a more even temperature throughout your home.

An air conditioner running at 60% of its power also gets less wear, both on its internal components and the ductwork. You can stay cool without having to push your system to its limit and needing to get expensive repairs because of it.

Another nice feature: two-stage ACs operate much more quietly while on the low setting. You can have a cool and tranquil home at the same time.

If one of these AC is the right choice for you, it can provide you with tremendous savings on your energy bill. But keep in mind that a two-stage air conditioner is more intricate than the standard single-stage AC. Although all home air conditioners need professional maintenance to keep them working, it is especially important to rely on expert help when you need work done on a two-stage system.  Envirotech offers the quality air conditioning service you need in West Palm Beach, FL to install your two-stage system and keep it running. Call today to schedule an appointment.

West Palm Beach Air Conditioning Tip: Prolonging the Life of Your System

Monday, September 9th, 2013

In West Palm Beach, we wind up using our air conditioning systems much of the year, so it’s important to get as many years out of your air conditioner that you can. Call the West Palm Beach air conditioning professionals at Envirotech today to learn how. We’ll take you through a few steps for this winter that will help your AC stay sturdy and provide you with a prolonged life of refreshing, cool air.

Install UV germicidal lights: A specific concern in a place as humid as West Palm Beach is the growth of mold and fungus. If these pollutants develop in your ducts, they can cause problems with your home’s air quality. Regular maintenance on the ducts to keep them clean is one way to prevent mold growth. Another is installing  UV germicidal lights near the air handler. These special lights work as disinfectants that not only deter the growth of microbacteria, but also destroy these biological pollutants.

Keep your air filter clean: Because air conditioners stay on for long periods during the summer, it is a good idea to change your AC’s filter every month. The filter is what prevents dust and debris from damaging the more sensitive parts of the system. If your filter gets clogged, it will not only cut down on the flow of air, but may also cause damage to the air conditioner, shortening its life.

Preventive maintenance: The most important part of making sure any mechanical device works for many years is regular, preventive maintenance. With a device as complex and as hard-working as your air conditioning system, it is especially important to have regular checks to spot approaching trouble and stop it. Highly trained technicians will inspect your air conditioner’s ducts, fans, coils, and compressor to see that everything is in prime working condition and free from breaks and punctures. These professional inspections can keep you from facing costly repairs or having to replace your system entirely.

To help your air conditioning system last through many years, call the West Palm Beach air conditioning specialists at Envirotech today to enroll in a preventive maintenance program.

Happy Labor Day!

Monday, September 2nd, 2013

On the first Monday of every September, we celebrate Labor Day in honor of workers everywhere who strive to make our local community and country great. We enjoy the holiday like any other business as a time for BBQ, hanging out with friends and family, and celebrating the end of summer. It also means the start of the NFL and college football seasons.

The origins of Labor Day are disputed, as is the case with many other holidays. Some cite Matthew Maguire, the machinist and secretary of the Central Labor Union of New York, while others cite Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor. Whomever the original founder, by 1894, the holiday had become widely recognized and was designated a federal holiday by Congress and President Grover Cleveland immediately following the Pullman Strike. This strike pitted US Marshals and US Military against employees of Pullman Palace Car Company outside Chicago, as workers sought to protest wage cuts and firing of union representatives. At the time, the holiday was a way of repairing ties with workers and recognizing the importance of their contribution.

Today, we see Labor Day as an opportunity to recognize all the people who work hard to contribute to our county. Thank you, and Happy Labor Day from all of us!
