Why Install a Water Source Heat Pump in Boca Raton?

Monday, October 29th, 2012

Water source heat pumps have gained some popularity in recent years. But some people in Boca Raton are unfamiliar with the benefits of water source heat pumps and how they can both heat and cool your home. We’ve put together a description of how water source heat pumps work and some of the benefits to installing one.

How Water Source Heat Pumps Work

Water source heat pumps are a component of a geothermal heating and air conditioning system. As their name implies, water source heat pumps use water or a water/refrigerant mix to both heat and cool your home or building. There are two types of water source heat pumps: closed loop and open loop. In a open loop, water from a source like a river or lake drawn into a pipe and circulated to the heat exchanger where heat is extracted. The water is then returned to the lake. In a closed loop system, a refrigerant is circulated through a closed loop of pipes and absorbs the heat from the ground.

Increased Efficiency

Water source heat pumps use the renewable energy found in ground. The water source heat pump doesn’t require any fuel to burn in order to create heat. This reduces typical heating costs dramatically. Additionally, with high-efficiency heat pumps, the electricity required to circulate the water can be drastically reduced.

Less Space

Without the need for a noisy compressor, the systems necessary to run a geothermal system take up less space. This makes them very good candidates for retrofit projects. For homes and businesses that have the space for the loops, a geothermal system might make a lot of sense.

Durability

Geothermal systems are known for their longevity. Because much of the system is underground, it experiences very little wear from the elements. The loops can last anywhere from 25 to 50 years. The heat pumps often have a lifespan of 20 years as well.

West Palm Beach Duct Cleaning Tip: Why You Should Have Your Ducts Cleaned in the Fall

Monday, October 15th, 2012

When fall rolls around many of are getting ready to turn off our air conditioning system and turn on the heating systems in our West Palm home. Before that happens, it might be a good idea to consider getting your ducts cleaned. Duct cleaning has a number of potential benefits for your home. We’ve put together a short list of some of the possible benefits from professional duct cleaning.

Better Air Quality in Your Home

The basic function of your furnace is to heat air and blow it into the rest of your home through a series of ducts. As the air passes through the ducts, it can pick up dust, allergens, mold and other bacteria which it will carry into the rooms of your home. When your ducts are cleaned by a professional indoor air quality technician, they can remove a lot of those particulates.

Reduced Allergens

With less allergens, like pollen or pet dander, being blown around your house, it can potentially increase the comfort level for people in your home who suffer from allergies and asthma.

Reduced Dust Levels

After your ducts are cleaned, the indoor air technicians will remove a large amount of dust in your home. This can potentially slow down the accumulation of dust on your floors, countertops and furniture leaving house cleaner.

Better Air Flow

If you are experiencing low air flow out of the registers in your home it may mean that there is something in your ducts blocking the flow of air. Having a professional duct cleaner remove any debris from your ducts could help improve the amount of air that reaches your register. Additionally, duct cleaning can reveal other problems in your ducts like leaks or sealing problems. This can also lead to poor airflow as holes in the ducts can allow air to escape.

Mold Detection

Ducts are a prime location for mold growth. They’re dark, contain abundant amounts of oxygen and are often moisture-rich as well. Having a professional clean the mold from your ducts can possibly improve the air quality in your home and catch costly mold damage before it gets out of hand.

If you would like to talk to a duct cleaning professional in West Palm Beach then call the experts at Envirotech. Our technicians are ready to answer any questions you might have about the duct cleaning services we offer.

Air Conditioning Contractor’s Tip: Ductless AC Troubleshooting

Monday, October 1st, 2012

A ductless AC system is a great solution for all of your Palm Beach home cooling needs. But there will probably come a time when your system doesn’t work exactly as it should. For many types of ductless AC problems, you’ll probably have to call a professional air conditioning technician. But before you do, there are a few things you can check to make sure professional attention is really necessary.

If You Hear a Strange Noise:

Some sounds are part of normal ductless AC operation. If you hear a sizzling sound from time to time when your system is in heating mode, there’s no need to call an expert. The sound is simply related to the automatic defrosting of various system components. Similarly, a squeaking sound while your system is running often results from small changes in the size of the cover of the unit due to temperature changes.

If Your System Doesn’t Turn On:

There are several normal situations that can result in a temporary loss of function in your ductless AC system. For instance, if you turn your system off, you have to wait for about 3 minutes before turning it back on again. That’s because of a built-in safety feature of the compressor that’s meant to prevent shorting out a fuse but that can make it seem like your system is malfunctioning.

This same mechanism will kick in if there is any type of interruption in power to the system, so you should always give your system a good 5 minutes and try to turn it on again. If it still doesn’t start, it’s time to call for professional help.

If Your Heating or Cooling Is Inadequate:

Inadequate heating or cooling can be due to a number of conditions. These include dirty air filters, an improperly set or broken thermostat, or a blocked outlet port or intake grille. If you check all of these elements and correct them and your ductless AC still isn’t performing the way it should, call Envirotech Air Quality Services to get to the root of the problem.
